BHRC Red Kite Stages 2016

The Red Kite Stages took place last Sunday (21st February), organised by the Amman and District Motor Club, it was the first round of the 2016 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship and Jason Pritchard and Phil Clark made a fine start to their ‘title defence’ season…

Wintery conditions that includes ice, snow, strong winds, thick fog and rain made it a challenging start for all the crews, but the 2015 Champions failed to make a mistake in their Mk2 Ford Escort. However, hot on their heals Nick Elliott and Dave Price, also in a MK2, were with them every step of the way until their Escort stalled on the second run and refused to start for 15 long seconds. This also moved the Mk2 Escort of Joe Price and Chris Brooks up into second place after a sterling drive, but a impressive fight back from Elliot re-took the position in the final stage.

Gear box issues for the Mk1 Escort of John Perrott and Keaton Williams in the final stage, left the path clear for category 2 to be won by Stanley Orr and Guy Weaver, both crews had been battling it out all day. Category 1 was won by Bob and Dale Gibbons in their Mk2 Ford Cortina in the end, as an electrical failure struck Bob Bean and Malcolm Smithton’s Lotus Cortina taking them out of contention after leading the charge.
