MG Live Silverstone 2016

The MGCC (MG Car Club) occupied Silverstone last weekend (4-5 June) with an invasion of MG’s from every corner of Europe, cars from almost every decade of the 20th Century and the 21st….welcome to MG Live.

The weekend got of to a cold, moist and gloomy start but that did not dampen the occasion with enthusiasts arriving in droves in their ‘pride and joys’ to celebrate this iconic and classic marque.

There was something for everyone, with not only the motorsport to be enjoyed, auto Jumbles, MG car sales, food and drink, and many other outlets trying to persuade you to part with your cash – even I found something for my MG…

Also part of the weekends entertainment was the legend that is Russ Swift. Some of you may remember him from this video, doing his thing in a MG3.

Visitors to the event could bid for a ride with arguably one of the UK’s finest stunt men with all proceeds going to Headway, the charity for people with Brain injures. Also in the live arena over the weekend Ant Antstead from Channel 4’s ‘For The Love Of Cars’ and the one and only Mike Brewer entertained the crowds.

The weekend would not be complete without a full two days of motorsport, naturally there was a fine show of MG’s out on track but there were also races from the Lotus Cup Europe giving us a show not only with the usual close racing but also with some fantastic colours and livery’s, and the superb Porsche Club Championship.

MG wise, the usual mix of MG’s old and…well….not so old, with the likes of MGB’s MGA’s, a couple of ZS 180’s in the mix. The MGCC Trophy Championship, a field full of MG ZR’s with there close and hectic style of racing across the three classes. 58 cars lined up for the Equipe GTS race a huge grid and MGB’s were leading the charge…

A fantastic weekend was had by all, a buzzing atmosphere, friendly people all with one thing in common, the love and passion for everything MG, a club I am proud to pe part of.
