Goodwood Festival of Speed Saturday

With warm up and trial runs completed on Friday the competitors ramped up the pace on the famous hill climb on Saturday…

The event was celebrating BMW’s motorsport achievements, and conducting runs up the hill were such machines as the BMW 320I “Batmobile” and the BMW M1 Pro Car all getting a chance to stretch their legs. It was also great to see Alex Zanardi drive his BMW Z4 GT3 up the hill, the more modern machinery from the BMW stable.

Saturday is the day that all the motorsport stars and Hollywood celebrities show up to drive their particular choice of car up the hill. British F1 star and current McLaren-Honda driver Jenson Button was in attendance on Saturday driving the McLaren-Tag/Porsche MP4/2 which had won 12 out of 16 races in 1984. Jenson was also reunited with his championship winning BrawnGP 001 with which he won the title in 2009. McLaren young gun Stoffel Vandoorne was also in action driving the McLaren-Honda MP4/6 up the hill, the very same car that propelled Ayrton Senna to his 3rd title.

In attendance in his first Goodwood FOS appearance was actor Keanu Reeves who was aboard the Arch KRGT-1 a company and bike which he co-created to fuel his biking obsession. One of the special things about Festival of Speed is the sheer mix of people enjoying being around such varied machinery, in particular, Adrian Newey when he asked Karun Chandhok if he could take a seat in his new “company car”, the Ex-Rosberg Williams FW08C.

Sunday was a new day, the day when the BTCC guys got serious and the timed shootout was scheduled to start!
