BRSCC Brands Meeting 9th & 10th July

The BRSCC (British Racing & Sports Car Club) were in residence at Brands Hatch over the weekend (9th & 10th July) with two full days of club racing…

On the bill we had a whole host of Mazda MX5’s along with Prototype Sports Cars, Touring/Production Type Cars and Single Seaters. A glorious day greeted all on Saturday, starting with the usual practice and qualifying sessions in the morning and racing starting after the lunch break.

Sunday was a different day altogether with rain showers and blustery winds. A greasy track at Paddock caught a few of the racers out with a big accident during the Post 89 FF 1600, fortunately both drivers where OK. Most grids were full, with 27 cars in the Avon Tyres Post 89 Formula Ford 1600’s and 23 cars occupying the Excool OSS Championship which included 3 invitation cars that included the Aqulia Synergy. The Aqulia is strange but fantastic looking ‘step-up’ sports car that is affordable to run racer aimed at those looking to make the transition from karts or just looking to go racing and features an 81 bhp Toyota motor and under 400kg of weight. This could be a good way into prototype/sports car racing for young drivers looking to cut their teeth ultimately in professional motorsport.

The Mazda grids were as always massive with heats and hard charging races, but my favourites over the weekend had to be the superbly styled and colourful Formula Jedi’s, and yes there name does come from the Jedi Knight from the Star War movies. Not a huge grid but the racing was good and close for these fast big engined single seaters.

Also racing over the weekend were the Production GTI Mk5 Golf Series, a new series for 2016, and the Production GTI Mk2 Golf Series a few seconds a lap clearly demonstrates the evolution of the legendary GTI.

An enjoyable weekend was had, with a friendly paddock and lots of wheel to wheel entertainment, the BRSCC always seem to put on a good show.
