Tregurtha Crowned Junior Champion As Priaulx Takes Debut Win

Will Tregurtha secured the Ginetta Junior Championship title at Silverstone last weekend (17/18 September), a 4th title for the HHC Motorsport Team….wins also taken by Seb Priaulx, his maiden win and Dave Wooder.

It has been a season long battle between Tregurtha and Stuart Middleton and as the pair settled in to quali at a slippy cold Silverstone track none could intailly match the pace of Harry King who set a provisional pole a clear 1/2 second ahead of the rest of the field in the first 5 minutes but as track conditions improved so did the times of the chasing pack. In the closing lap Priaulx had the pace securing his second pole of the season.

As race 1 got underway, Wooder got in front after a fine start and held this position until the flag with Priaulx, Tregurtha and Lewis Brown all fighting it out behind. In the end though HHC driver Fagg slipped by into third and Priaulx held second as they went over the line – the end result of what then became an 8 way battle! Harry King and Harry Dyson also stepped up on the podium in the rookie class, Dyson only turning the ripe old age of 14 a few days before the meeting.

Race 2 witnessed another Priaulx and Wooder battle off the start, it was again a multi-way 7 car battle at the front with Brown, King swapping places with the leaders. In the end Priaulx swept through and took his first win with Wooder second and King third – a photo finish.

In the final race of the weekend, all Tregurtha needed to do was finish ahead of Middleton and the championship was his and a front row start only helped his cause especially as Stuart Middleton was starting 18th. There was some fast paces changes at the front as the race got underway but following an off by Greg Johnson the safety car was old and the pack bunched up but by lap 9 the race was back on and this time Middleton was on it moving from 18th to 5th by the end of the race – a sterling drive but not enough to win the championship but enough to keep his second place in the standings.

Final race of the season is at Brands on the 1st / 2nd October….
