Britcar Oulton Park

Soaking wet weather greeted Britcar competitors on their return to Oulton Park last Saturday (1st October).

Several Britcar regulars did not make the trip north to the Cheshire circuit leaving rather thin grids for the day’s two endurance races. The first encounter of the day was a 50 minute race for GT and touring cars which got underway in heavy rain. Calum Lockie built up a huge lead in the Ferrari 458 GT3 he shared with David Mason from the start, before a sizeable off for Geoff Steel in his BMW M3 brought out the safety car.

The field was still behind the safety car as the 20 minute mark passed, and the entire field dived into the pits for their mandatory pitstop and driver change. Once the caution lifted, Scott Adam found himself in second place in his BMW M3 just five seconds behind the leading Ferrari, now driven by David Mason. Adam quickly caught and passed Mason and held on to the end to take the victory by almost a minute.

The second GT and Touring car race was held as part of the longer two and half hour endurance event, and victory again went to the BMW M3 of Mike Moss and Adam Scott.

The two and half hour Britcar Endurance race started in torrential rain, with Calum Lockie leading the field into Old Hall just ahead of the Audi R8 of Nigel Moore, who made contact with the BMW Z4 of Kevin Clarke in his bid to stay with Lockie. By lap six, Moore was ahead of the Ferrari and set about building a lead before contact with a slower car sent the Tockwith Motorsport Audi into the garage. The car lost two laps repairing the damage, and the team took the opportunity to change drivers and send Phil Hanson out for his stint. This lasted only one lap before contact with another car put the Audi out for good.

This left Calum Lockie leading the Rollcentre Racing Mosler MT900R of Richard Neary. Lockie stayed out for 75 minutes before bringing the Ferrari in for fuel, and the went out for a short 15 minute second stint before bringing the car back in to hand over to David Mason. Shortly before this, Neary had pitted in the Mosler and handed over to Martin Short, who quickly caught and passed Mason to take victory by two laps at the flag.

In the support races, Paul Rose took two victories in the final rounds of the CNC Heads Sports and Saloon Championship in his Saker Rapx, and Ian Larder and Lee Harpham shared the spoils in the pair of British F125 open Superkart races.
