Formula Ford Festival 2016 At Brands Hatch

The 45th running of the Formula Ford Festival saw Ireland’s Niall Murray become the first driver to take the overall win for a second time, his first came back in 2013.

After much success during the Heats and Semi Finals, The final race saw Murray beaten off the line by pole man Scott Malvern only to take the lead on the third lap and then to take the chequered flag nearly 4 seconds ahead of his rival and to claim his historic second Festival overall win.

The weekend began with the usual Saturday qualifying and practice sessions in cold, gray and foggy conditions with the weather clearing as the day went on. Sunday was a different day altogether, with a crisp chill in the air but bright and sunny, perfect weather for driver and spectator alike.

The weekend’s action took place on the famous 1.2 mile Brands Hatch Indy Circuit with the BRSCC featuring a 21 race program. Races from the S2000 championships, Pinto and Duratec, the Classic Formula Ford Championship, the many Quaife Ford Fiesta Championships, from the shores of Ireland the ASK Supercars and with more than 60 cars entered into the main event, The Formula Ford Festival, racing was going to be hectic and spectacular.

When grids are as full as they were you might expect a few off’s and red flags – and you’d have been right but this did nothing to spoil the day’s entertainment. The marshals were always on hand to get their job done quickly, with as little fuss as possible, very important with the evenings getting darker earlier.

A good crowd were in attendance on Sunday adding to the race day’s atmosphere and I’m sure no-one went home disappointed.

Congratulations to Niall Murray and Murray Motorsport and thank you BRSCC for another successful running of this, one of the U K’s favorite motorsport events. Already looking forward to seeing you again in 2017.

Also, a big well-done to Classic Formula Ford’s Ian Jeary who volunteered to have his head shaved to raise money for Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden Hospital.
