Formula Vee Festival & Victor Meldrew Trophy Brands Hatch

Last weekend (29-30/10/2016), the traditional Vee Festival end of season race was held at Brands Hatch; fiercely close racing, large grids and adrenaline pumped action was served all weekend…

Formula Vee is a inexpensive way to go racing where cost are kept low, single seater racers cars, running gear straight out of the VW Beetle parts bin all powered by a VW air cooled motor producing 85BHP.

Also competing at the meeting were the MSVR All Comers with 2 races on the Saturday and 2 on Sunday. A mix of cars with all drivers pushing hard fighting for position. It’s in the Sunday’s races that my driver of the day award has to go to the driver of the # 78 MGB V8, Ollie Neaves – pure entertainment, always pushing the car beyond the limit often with some spectacular side ways action at Druids and the inevitable spectacular spins.

Sharing the bill on Sunday was the ever popular Victor Meldrew Trophy, a handicap event for, and I quote, ‘for drivers that, for one reason or another, never quite made it to the top of the sport’. Over the weekend we were also entertained by the Volkswagen Racing Cup, The Lotus Cup UK Sprint Championship and the MSVR Mono Open.

The weather over the weekend was not that great, Saturday was a day of low dark clouds but it remained thankfully dry and after a foggy start on Sunday the sun evan made an appearance for a while in the early part of the afternoon.

Overall the weekend was enjoyable, with some very entertaining races from a variety of cars and a very friendly paddock with racers and mechanics always taking the time to have a chat to the masses.
