Race Retro Opens at Stoneleigh…

Race Retro opens tomorrow at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry and this its 15th year, a legendary car will grace the shows Hall of Fame – Jim Clarks 1965 Belgian, British, German and Syracuse Grands Prix race winning chassis R11 Lotus-Climax Type 33, its first public appearance in 40 years…

You can see in the main image just how original this car is, great to see it in its totally unrestored form with battle scars still visible, this car is so steeped in history and still wearing it to this day. Plenty else to see too including the £10m Bentley Speed 8 which was raced at Le Mans by Tom Kristensen (Tom will be at the show), Marrku Alén’s Fiat 131 Abarth, winner of the 1978 FIA Cup, John Surtees’ DFV powered TS14 single seaters, an ex-Colin McRea’s 1996 Subaru Impreza WRC 97 001, Porsche Carerra 2.7 litre lightweight, AUI 1500, which is said to be the most successful race rallying Porsche of all time, an iconic BTCC racer from the 1980’s the Rover SD1 and a stunning and very rare 1950s D-Type Jaguar which raced at the Sebring 12-hr and more.

Rallying always features heavily at the show and rightly so (more people are involved with rallying in the UK than any other form of motorsport), and this year legends Ari Vatanen and Markuu Alen will drive on the live rally stage that the show puts on in the show ground every year plus visitors will get the chance to see group B rally cars blatting round the stage too.

Not forgetting the bikes, there is always and excellent display at ‘Fast’ Freddie Spencer, GP Champion and the only man ever to win both 250cc and 500cc titles in one year, will visit the show for the first time plus there is always a fine display of bikes on display. Bring your wallet if you are in the market for a classic as Silverstone Auctions will have a sale, over £4.7m in sales last year..parts, auto jumble and clubs all feature in what looks to be another cracking 3 day event.
