Masters Historic Series Brands….

The Masters Historic Series descended on the legendary GP circuit at Brand Hatch over the weekend…

The main Masters Historic series for F1 cars of 70’s and early 80’s heritage had two races over the weekend, each lasting 25 mins. The first race on Saturday was won by Michael Lyons in the RAM Williams FW07b with Nick Padmore (Shadow DN5) and Simon Fish (Ensign N180) taking the podium positions.

Race 2 took place on a warm and humid Sunday at the Kent circuit. On pole was the race winner from Saturday Michael Lyons in his Williams, Lyons’ race was cut short after only lap one due to a driveshaft failure. Martin Stretton took the chequered flag in his Tyrrell 012, however as he was in the Invitational class Steve Hartley in P2 took maximum points and Nick Padmore picking up 3rd position on the road.

One of the most entertaining support races of the weekend was the Pre 66 Touring car race, packed with Minis, Mustangs and various popular marques from the era. This race was lead from start to finish by the Henry Mann / Steve Soper Ford Mustang, with two Cortinas of Mark Sumpter and Geoff Letts taking P2 and P3 respectively.

Overall the Master Historic is a must attend for any Historic Racing fan, with its open paddock and pit garages allows some great access for the spectator. The Masters Historic series heads off to France and Magny Cours for the next round and returning to the UK for a round at the fantastic Silverstone Classic in July.
