July Harewood Championship & British MSA Championship Hillclimb

The British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) Yorkshire Centre was busy over the weekend of 1st July and 2nd July…

On Saturday saw the return of the popular Harewood Championship Hillclimb, with two practice runs followed by four timed runs drivers enjoyed dry but breezy weather conditions throughout the day. In the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship Sarah Bosworth (Lotus Elise) is still leading the charge with Steve Darley moving up to second in his rapid Subaru Impreza Estate and Tracy Taylor West also in a Lotus Elise in third. John Chacksfield leads the Harewood FTD Championship from rival Dave Banner both drivers competing in OMS 28’s.

The BARC Yorkshire Centre also welcomed competitors from the MSA British Championship Hillclimb on Sunday, who were joined in the paddock by a large entry of competitors from the Porsche Club GB taking who took part in the Porsche Club Speed Championship and the Porsche Club National Hillclimb Championship. Harewood regulars from the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship also tackled the famous West Yorkshire hill.

Sunday mornings 1st practice session got off to a rocky start as the first competitor lost it and went off…the morning progressed with only a couple of other incidents during the mornings two practice runs. Following practice the first of the timed runs to find the fastest twelve cars took place, drivers viewing for a chance to compete in the meetings first championship run offs. Only the fastest 10 scored championship points with top spot going to Trevor Willis in his OMS 28. After a late lunch break, a second timed run was completed, followed by the second run off and this time the honours went too Scott Moran in his Gould GR61X.

Many thanks to BARC Yorkshire Centre at Harewood Hill and not forgetting all the marshals and rescue teams.
