BARC National Championship Race Meeting

Brands Hatch welcomed the British Automobile Racing Club last weekend (29-30 July 2017) with a whole host of championships, all fighting for honors on the 1.2 mile Indy Circuit which included endurance racing by Britcar, 10 championships from the Classic Touring Car Racing Club, Thunder Saloons, Quaife Modified and Tin Top Saloons, the Avon Tyres Intermarque Championship and not forgetting the entertaining 2CV Championship.

Saturday was headlined by Britcar with a 50-minute sprint race and a 2-hour endurance race to end the day. The 2-hour race was a wet affair with the Ferrari 458 Challenge of Johnny Mowlem and Bonamy Grimes kept their winning speed from the earlier sprint race to finish the 2-hour endurance with a 3 lap lead over the Team HARD’s Ginetta G55 GT4 of Thomas Knight and Darren Lewis.

The 2CVparts.com Championship always entertains with its brand of racing with wins from the weekend being shared by Mick Storey and Luca Proietti. These were the penultimate rounds before the series takes itself off to Snetterton for the 24-hour endurance race from on 18th August.

Rod Birley adding more podiums to his CV with wins in the BARC SE Centre Quaife Modified Saloons and Jame Ross and Chris Whiteman proved to be the ones to beat in the Quaife/Cannons Motor Spares Tin Top Championship.

Malcolm Blackman and his Vauxhall Tigra Silhouette took a step closer to the BARC SE Centre Scrapco/Avon Tyres Intermarque Championship with 2 race victories. Championship rival Lewis Smith taking both the days runner up positions.

In other championships, Dale Gent took a double win in the Thunder Saloons, Mark Cholerton and Jim Mcloughlin both taking wins in the Pre 66 and Group 1 Touring Cars and Craig Jamieson taking the spoils in the Pre 93, pre 03 and the Blue Oval Saloons.

It was a weekend of good solid motorsport. Not only were the grids varied, the CTCRC grids all mixed, so was the weather with damp/wet conditions on Saturday and a mixture of light cloud and warm sunny conditions on Sunday. With large grids in every category, another successful weekend laid on by the BARC.
