BARC Race Day Oulton Park

The BARC started their 2018 season last Saturday (17th March) at Oulton Park, with competitors having to battle some wintery weather as well as the undulating Cheshire circuit.

The UK Legends Championship made its first visit to Oulton Park for three years, and delivered typically frantic action. After the first heat was red flagged due to a major shunt at Old Hall on the first lap, Will Gibson emerged victorious in the shortened re-start. Steve Whitelegg took victory in the second heat, which featured a lenghty safety car period following a couple of multi-car crashes at the start of the race.

In the final at the end of the day, Connor Mills emerged victorious ahead of Jack Parker and heat one winner Gibson.

The APL Health Caterham Graduates championship brought a large grid to Oulton Park, with four races for the series over the course of the day. In the two Mega/Classic/Sigma/Sigma VCT races, Declan Dolan took a brace of victories, with Ben Winrow second in each race.

In the Sigmax/Sigmax VCT races, Lee Collins also took both wins, with Oliver Gibson and Jamie Winrow completing the podium in race one. Winrow went one better in race two, finishing second ahead of Ben Giilias.

The CNC Heads Sports Saloon Championship boasted a 30-car plus grid, and there was drama right at the start as Paul Morris’ VW Golf cannoned into the barriers on the start finish straight, before rebounding into the path of the unfortunate Graeme Laslett’s Lotus Elise. Both cars suffered heavy damage but the drivers walked away unharmed. At the restart, Paul Rose romped away from the field in his Saker RAPX S1, taking the win by more then 20 seconds. Behind the charging Rose, second and third place were separated by just three tenths of a second, with David Harvey just edging out Danny Bird.

In the Lancaster Insurance MG Owners Club Championship, David Mellor took victory in a snow interrupted race one, while Simon Kendrick took the second race of the day in his MG-F
