BTRA Championship at Brands Harch

The British Truck Racing Association Championship’s (BTRA) 2018 Season got underway over the Easter Weekend with two days of smoke filled bumper to bumper action.

Weighing in at over five tonnes with more than a 1000 brake horse power split over two divisions these monsters fought it out on the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in spectacular fashion.

With two championships up for grabs both championships are more open than they have been in a while and more so in Division 1 with Ryan Smith deciding not to defend his title in 2018.

The weekends first BTRA Division 1 win went to Stuart Oliver and his Volvo VNL with championship contender David Jenkins and his MAN TGX keeping close behind ensuring Oliver’s win did not come easy. Matt Summerfield taking the third podium position. First BTRA Division 2 honors went to Luke Garrett in his MAN TGX with John Bowler and Brad Smith on the last two steps of the podium.

David Jenkins took the first win of the day on day two in Division 1 and Luke Garrett again taking first blood on Monday in Division 2.  Currant BTRA Champion Ryan Smith was celebrating a triple win taking wins in the combined grid races 5, 6 & 7.

The Easter Weekend was packed with support races from the Legends Cars National Championship with their usual large grids and close door handle racing with wins from the likes off Ben Power, John Mickel and Miles Rudman.  Pickup Truck Racing Championship, The Kumho BMW Championship, Scrapco/Avon Tyres Intermarque Championship complemented the weekend along with the  Quaife Modified Saloons and Tin Tops Championships.

The weather over the Easter holiday was what we have come to expect with  heavy clouds on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday mostly wet.

A massive thank you has to go to the marshals and the other on track staff who kept the weekend safe and barriers repaired. Well done guys.
