A summer of motorsport is on its way, what events are worth attending?

As spring turns into summer, the motorsports season is warming up, not just in the UK but around the world also, and millions of fans will be flocking to watch their favourite brand of motor action.

For motorsport fanatics, there really is a huge range of events and competitions to enjoy, no matter where you are based. Whether you are planning to visit the track or are just checking out the odds on the latest events, here is a short guide to some of the major upcoming events in the world of motorsport this year:

MG Live, Silverstone: 2 June to 3 June

MG enthusiasts are a dedicated bunch, but this event is much bigger than you’d think. Hosted by historic Silverstone, it is a two-day festival that features not just MG displays but also historic racing events. It’s the perfect way to whet your appetite for the season ahead.

Isle of Man TT: 2 June to 8 June

If you’re a bike fan, the Isle of Man TT is a must. Dating back to 1907, this thrilling event sees some of the world’s most daring racers push themselves on the Isle of Man’s public roads. There’s plenty to do and see, and it’s well worth the cost of the ferry trip.

24 Hours of Le Mans, France: 16 June to 17 June

The annual Le Mans 24-hour race is one of motorsport’s most iconic events and is attended by thousands. Even if you aren’t a fan of the sport and captivated by the spectacle of cars hitting 200mph up the Mulsanne Straight, there is more than enough to keep you entertained, from the giant Ferris wheel to the beer mountain.

Formula One British Grand Prix, Silverstone: 6 July to 8 July

Just like Le Mans, this is a famous motorsport event enjoyed by millions of fans every year. There is nothing quite like the atmosphere of the British Grand Prix. Will Lewis Hamilton triumph again? Head to the world-renowned Silverstone track and enjoy the vibrant, crazy thrills and spills of the Formula One circus.

Goodwood Festival of Speed: 12 July to 15 July

One of our favourites, this event has taken off in a relatively short space of time. From the first festival in 1993 attended by 25,000, it has grown into one of the staples of the motorsport calendar. Around 150,000 spectators will watch historic car races on the notorious hill climb, and the Moving Motor Show gives spectators the chance to get closer to the cars.

Rally GB, Wales: 4 October to 7 October

Wales is the location for a round of the FIA World Rally Championship every autumn, and this year the Welsh round occurs three weeks earlier than usual. Many fans travel to special stages such as Cholmondeley Castle, but for the hardcore rally followers, the only way to enjoy the action is to travel into the wilds of Wales to see it up close and muddy!

Whatever your motorsport preference, there is an event to suit you on this year’s racing calendar – so get out there and be a part of the world’s most thrilling sport!
