BRSCC Mazda Raceday Oulton Park

It was wall-to-wall Mazda’s at Oulton Park on Saturday 16th June, as the BRSCC brought its Mazda MX-5 Championships to the Cheshire Circuit.

Six races for the Mazda MX-5 Championship topped the bill, supported by the Avon Tyres Northern Formula Ford 1600 Championship, the Cox Motor Parts Civic Cup, and the Mazda MX-5 Super Series for newer Mk III cars.

Packed grids and some varied weather made for an entertaining day of 13 races, with the MX-5 Championship grid being split into two groups due to the number of cars entered.

Will Blackwell-Chambers took the win in the day’s opening race for the Group A Mazda runners, with a winning margin of just 0.361s over Samuel Smith.

Smith would get revenge in the day’s second race for this grid, taking the win by over 6 seconds from Brian Trott, with Will Blackwell-Chambers in third place.

The final race of the day for the Group A runners went to Smith again, with Will Blackwell-Chambers just 0.044 seconds behind at the flag.

For the Group B runners, Simon Orange took the first win of the day from Clive Chisnall, with Oliver Robinson a distant third place.

Race two was won by Callum Greatrex by 0.4 seconds from Jack Moody, with Charles Mugglestone in third place. The final Group B race of the day went to Marcus Bailey, with Matt Pollard and Oliver Robinson completing the podium.

Topping the support bill were a pair of races for the Avon Tyres Northern Formula Ford Championship. Race one went to Rory Smith by half a second from David McArthur, who was himself only half a second ahead of Jack Wolfenden after the race was red flagged following an accident at Lodge corner.

Race two saw the top two positions reversed, with David McArthur crossing the line just 0.301 seconds ahead of Rory Smith, with Jack Wolfenden again completing the podium in third place.

The Cox Motor Parts Civic Cup featured a huge grid of 29 colourful Honda Civics, which provided some of the best racing of the day. Mark Grice took a narrow victory in race one, crossing the line just 0.211 seconds ahead of Rob Baker. Daniel Reason took third, with the top three covered by under 1 second at the flag.

Race two went to Arron Sharp, with Daniel Reason in second and Jason Ballantyne third.

Finally, Joshua Jackson took a brace of wins in the Mazda MX-5 Super Series for newer Mazda MX-5 models.
