BTRDA Clubman’s Rallycross Round 4 Blyton Park Circuit

Round four of the 2018 BTRDA Clubman’s Rallycross Championship took place at Blyton Park Circuit on Sunday (17th June). The event was organised by the Mini Drivers Association (MDA).

After weeks of little or no rain the track was very dry, the sky with its grey clouds looked like we may have the odd shower but with a cool breeze all were hoping it would stay dry all day. Thankfully for us photographers and the marshals it did not rain but that meant another different sort of problem, for both practice and the first round of heats, dust had a bid role to play. Prior to the start of the second round of heats the organisers used water on the Gravel sections to help reduce the problem for not just the competitors, but all the the Marshall’s and us photographers were suffering too. For the first round of heats the dust gave the leaders a huge advantage while the competitors in the chasing packs had to deal with great clouds of the suff. Even so the competition was close and fierce though out the field.

The Championship has a number of different categories and classes which is suitable of all sorts of cars from the old and very small British Leyland Mini (by modern day car standards) to the four wheel drive Subaru Impreza. Also included is a class for junior competitors, the grid is mainly Suzuki Swift’s with the odd other manufacture such as the Vauxhall Corsa of Amy Baines taking part in round four.

With three heats of four laps, for each of the following categories Production 4×4, Pre 1995 Classic, Junior, Super Modified and Production, followed by the Finals of five laps making for a great day of action.

Luke Constantine (Suzuki Swift. Junior category car number 117) still leads the overall championship with a maximum score of four wins (160 points) Second, Tony Lynch 157 with points (Ford Ka Sport. Super Modified. car number 114) and Ryan Taylor third in a BMW E30 (Pre 1995 Classic car number 125) with 154 points

The BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship returns to Pembrey Circuit for a double header on 14th and 15th July.

Results can be found here.

Many thanks to Linda Longmate of the Mini Drivers Association, BTRDA, Blyton Park Circuit and of course, not forgetting all the marshals and rescue teams without which the event could not take place.
