Harewood Championship & MSA British Championship Hillclimb Weekend

The British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) Yorkshire Centre held two events over the weekend, Saturday 7th, the Harewood Championship Hillclimb & on the Sunday 8th July, the MSA British Championship Hillclimb the championships second and final visit to the famous Yorkshire hill.

Joining the regulars from the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship on the Saturday were competitors from the Porsche Club National Hillclimb and Speed Championships.

The weather forecast was for the hot sunny weather to continue and with two practice runs followed by three timed runs on the newly laid tarmac surface, everyone in the paddock was expecting a number of new class records and personal best times to be set on the excellent new surface.

In the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship after three rounds, Deryck Jones (Peugeot 205 GTi, car 68) has taken over the lead from Sarah Bosworth (Lotus Elise, car 106) with Ian Butcher (Honda Integra, car 67) in third.

Harewood Hillclimb Championship results can be found here.

Ed Carter (Force PT, car 137) leads the charge in the Harewood FTD Championship by three points from Dave Banner (OMS 28, who was not competing this weekend) followed by Ben Tranter (Formula Ford Vector TF93K, car 151) on fifteen points and his co-driver Rob Spedding (car 851) on eleven.

Sunday’s temperatures proved to be even hotter and competing in the MSA British Hillclimb Championship were a number of Harewood regulars (though this was not a round of the Harewood Championship) along with the Porsche Club National Hillclimb and Speed Championships competitors.

The morning got underway with two practice runs squeezed in before the lunch break, then the first timed run got under way for round seventeen of the MSA Hillclimb Championship. The fastest twelve drivers then took part in a ‘run off’ for Championship points but only the top ten receive these vital championship points. The second timed run soon followed – round eighteen of the Championship.

Richard Spedding (GWR Raptor) set a new hill record of 48.59 seconds in round seventeen only for Trevor Willis (OMS28) to beat that record in round eighteen with a time of 48.29 seconds.
