Goodwood Festival of Speed – The Silver Jubilee.

To mark the Silver Jubilee, the Duke of Richmond commissioned British artist and designer Gerry Judah to design this years central feature to commemorate 25 years of the Festival of Speed and also to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Porsche…standing in front of Goodwood house the feature climbed to a height of 52 metres….

One single, narrow spine would shoot vertically to explode into a seven pointed star on which six iconic Porsches sat perched at each end, with the seventh spindle pointing into a clear blue cloudless sky.
The estate grounds were packed solid with over 200 exhibitors their wares with everything from clothing to automated artwork.
This has also become the event that all the big manufacturers showcase their latest models. – Maserati unveiled its stunning Levante GTS and McLaren revealed its new 600LT. Aston Martin showcased its V8 Cygnet capable of a 0-60 in 4.2 seconds…
So as the name says its all about speed, the fastest machine up the 1.16-mile hillclimb this year was the Volkswagen I.D.R electric car winning the main shootout on the final day with an astounding time of 43.86. Second place went to another electric car , the NextEV NIO EP9 in a time of 44.32 and Joerg Weidinger claimed 3rd in his V8 BMW E36 M3.

David Brabham attended this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed with his 700bhp BT62 track car. David Brabham is the son of three-time F1 world champion Jack Brabham.

Elsewhere at the venue there was a Rally Stages Shootout, Jaguar F-Type Drifting and in the paddock there was a stunning display of F1 cars. Another fine event at the iconic West Sussex venue.
