CSCC/Brands Hatch Bonanza Race Meeting

The Classic Sports Car Club returned to Brands Hatch over the weekend (14-15/07/2018) with two days of racing, and with temperatures up in the high 20’s low 30 degrees C’ conditions were perfect for a weekend of motorsport.

Saturday was dedicated to the ‘Modern Classic’ Cars with a whole host of machines on show, Sunday was a day for the true classic.

The CSCC Cartek Motorsport Modern Classics, the Porsche 964 of Miles & Piers Masarati took pole position for race 1 with Sturat Daburn also on the front row in the TVR Tuscan Challenge. Gavin Dunn started on the second row in his BMW M3  E36. Stuart Daburn suffered a DNF after completing 23 laps of the race which allowed David Kempton in the BMW M3 Evo to finish 3rd after starting 5th on the grid. Miles & Piers Masarati brought the Porsche home in second place and Gavin Dunn taking the victory.

Race 2, the CSCC Turbo Tin Tops, Puma Cup and Smart 4Two Cup, the outright win went to Nigel Tongue in the Renault Megane F1  R26. Top puma Cup racer was Luke Johnson and in the Smart 4Two top honours went to James Palmer.

CSCC Gold Arts Magnificent Sevens. On pole for this one was Colin Watson in the Boss Racing Caterham C400. Boss Racing Team mate Tim Davis and DRC Innovations driver Richard Carter were lined up behind. Tim Davis in the Caterham C400 finished the race in 1st, Gary Bate and Jonathan Mitchell, both in Caterham CSR’s finished 2nd and 3rd. Pole sitting Colin Watson crossed the line in 5th, Richard Carter could only manage 7th.

In the CSCC New Millennium first step of the podium went to Graham Charman in the Ginetta G55 and James Ramm taking first place in both the weekends Toyo Tires  Jaguar Saloon & GT Championship.

Race 7 and 12, the CSCC Wendy Wools Special Saloons & Modsports, Andy Southcott put the MG Modsport on pole. Along side him Matt Moore in the RSR Escort, 3rd postion went to Andy Newall in the legendary Vauxhall Firenza Baby Bertha. Race 7 was won by Andy Southcott and the MG. Race 12 of the day victory also went to Andy Southcott but this time round Andy Newll brought the Feirnza home in 2nd and Thomas Cary in the Honda CRX 3rd. Matt Moores RSR Escort did not start.

The CSCC swinging Sixties, Brisky Racing’s Richard Wheeler and Ross Curnow put the Lotus Elan on pole with Raymond Burrow in the Chevrolet Camaro alongside. The 3rd grid position was occupied by Steve Hodges in the Lotus 7. A 40 minute race with pit stop Richard Wheeler brought the Lotus across the finish line first followed by Jon Wolfe in the TVR Tuscan V8 after starting 5th on the grid. Steve Hodges in the Lotus 7 crossed the line in 3rd. Raymond Burrow, although starting from 2nd place on the grid, could only manage 4th.

The CSCC Advantage Motorsport Future Classic, the Talbot Lotus Sunbeam driven by Martyn and Matthew Ellis ran away with the win and in the CSCC Tin Tops the win was taken by the Ford Fiesta ST of Richard Wheeler and Michael Bushell.

Another fantastic day put on by the Classic Sports Car Club with motor racing across many decades, a mixture of modern classics and ‘proper’ classic and some very tidy well turned out cars, a real petrol heads delight.
