Jack Frost Stage Rally At Croft

Fast & Furious – The Jack Frost Rally  – special stages at Croft…

It was a single venue, multi use stage rally featuring approximately forty stage miles, over eight special stages, all within the confines of the Circuit’s tarmac and also using some of the service roads and paddock areas. Competitors started at 30 second intervals and each stage consisting of more than one lap and marked with split junctions, giving the ticket paying spectators plenty to enjoy as two cars went flat out on track at anyone time. As the afternoon arrived, the stages ran the track in reverse to the normal race and sprint events found at this historic circuit.

The Darlington and District Motor Club organised the event with an entry restricted to 90 competitive cars, including a class for historic rally cars along with many popular clubman cars such as the Ford Escort, Mitsubishi Evo’s, Subaru Impreza’s and various Peugeot’s and even some ex WRC machines.

In some of the best weather conditions I have seen in February (normally expect to have frost or fog for the first stage at least) only added to a making it a great meeting even the Sunday stayed dry, mainly cloudy with temperatures getting up to about 10 degrees and with a bit of a breeze. The dry track provided competitors with good grip and some high-speed action to entertain the crowds.

The rally was a round of the following championships SG Petch ANECCC, AS Performance North of England Tarmac and the ANCC Stage Rally with the servicing taking place on hard standing within Croft Circuit itself.

The winners of the Jack Frost Stages Rally were Peter Smith and Patrick Walsh in a Ford Fiesta RS WRC, car 5. In fact the first five finishers were all driving some sort of Ford’s. Second was Alan Kirkaldy and co-driver Cameron Fair third was John Stone and co-driver Alex Stone both in Fiesta’s, fourth was Tony Bardy and co-driver Tony Walker in a Focus WRC, fifth was Paul and Jessica Swift in a Escort MkII, the first two wheel drive cars.

Results for the Jack Frost Stages Rally can be found here.

Many thanks to Darlington and District Motor Club, Croft Circuit, all the Marshals, rescue crews and officials of the event.
