British GT 2019 – GT3

2019 British GT season has begun, a record breaking 38 car field in the 27 year history of the championship.

British GT welcomes a huge grid featuring 14 GT3 machines with 5 of the new generation cars entered straight off the bat.
Balfe motorsport have ran the old 650s with great success and is one of the few teams to announce and receive the highly anticipated stunning 720s. The team saw the potential in the new car after seeing it’s ‘test’ race in the Gulf 12 hours where it with some pace near the front of the field. What other way is there to show off a new car?

BMW are represented on the grid for the first time since the introduction of the M6 GT3. Century Motorsport have acquired 2 of the big turbo beasts and have prepared them immaculately for the media day.
#9 is driven by Jack Mitchell and Adrian Willmott for the season. Mitchell is familiar with the series in its current state after coming from GT4 last season. Adrian Willmott has been here through the years seeing the recent evolution of the series and it’s nice to welcome back a seasoned pro. #9 is a ex ROWE racing car after theyhave made the switch to run 2 brand new Porsche cars this year.
#3 is an ex Teo Martin car from the GT Cup series, the team have made the switch to the Mclaren 720s and century couldn’t turn down an offer to make this a 2 car GT3 effort to back up their 2 car GT4 effort.

Abba Racing returns to the grid full time this year apart from 1 round where the teams AMG driver is busy with AMG commitments for the brand at the Nurburgring 24hrs. Richard and Adam have definitely gel’d as a pairing and showed great pace last season in the summer rounds at Silverstone and Spa, they certainly have potential for a great season ahead.
Ram Racing return to the racing after a hiatus from the championship, with Ian Loggie leaving Parker racing and jumping over to an AMG, he obviously feels confident in the car putting RAM racing quickest in the morning test session.

The 2nd Gen Bentley Continental has been released to customer teams and is ran by Team Parker racing, continuing their Bentley loyalty with Glyn Geddie and Ryan Ratcliffe taking the reigns.
JRM return to the British GT this season and taking on a new Bentley Continental. JRM are no stranger to GT racing having featured in the British GT before and also taking the 2011 GT1 championship. They may be new to the Continental but have plenty of experience with big GT3 machines having run the Nissan GT-R for many years.

Barwell return once again to try and claim the championship with 2 new Lamborghini Hurracan GT3 EVO’s.
Phil keen is back on board but this time with a new partner in crime, Adam Balon.
Johnny Cocker returns to the squad partnered with Sam De Haan.

Aston Martin are present with all new machinery, no screaming v12’s all represented by their new V8 powered Vantage with it’s striking looks.
Johnny Adam returns to defend his title but this year with TF sport once again, this year partnered with Graham Davidson. Johnny is the most successful British GT driver to date and now partnered with Davidson who proved his worth last year stepping into the series as a rookie from the GT Cup.
The second TF sport machine is running with Nicki Thiim and British GT ‘Veteran’ Mark Farmer. TF sport aren’t present at the media day, they’ve got their own filming day up at Oulton Park.
Optimum are back with another New Aston Martin piloted by Oliver Wilkinson and Bradley Ellis, a pairing regularly found in the GT Open series now arrive to leave their mark on the British GT championship.

The Final Aston is run by Beechdean motorsport who are the only team that are present on the test day. Andrew Howard returns to the series with Marco Sorensen, the other half of the Dane Train from Aston Martin.

GTC has one entry in it’s class so far, WPI motorsport are joining the British GT grid with their Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. They’ve ran so strong in the GT cup these past couple of seasons and making the jump  into this series means things are getting a lot more intense and serious at WPI motorsport. The rumours are that the team could already have a brand Porsche 911 GT3 car on order.
