Practice Day Harewood Speed Hillclimb 2019

The British Automobile Racing Club (BARC), Yorkshire Centre held its first event of the 2019 season with Practice Day meeting on Sunday 24th March 2019…

The Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship and the Fast Time of the Day Championship (FTD) kicks off on Sunday 14th April with the Spring National meeting. A full list of all the events at Harewood Hillclimb can be found here.

The 2018 Harewood Speed Hillclimb Champion Deryck Jones and the Harewood FTD Champion Dave Banner were both missing but are confirmed entries for the first championship meeting next month.

The event was organised with the usual slickness that we have come to expect from the BARC Yorkshire centre, with most competitors managing at least five or six timed runs before the ‘free for all’ which enabled some drivers to get in up to eleven timed runs up the famous hill. Though unfortunately a number of competitors did have technical and mechanical issues (new season mods I reckon – Ed) which meant retirement for the day.

The weather looked very promising from the start with sunshine with a few clouds, but by mid morning a very chilly wind had picked up, keeping the temperatures down in single figures. These cooler temperatures did not stop a number of competitors from setting personal best times for the hill and thankfully the rain held off until after the meeting had concluded.

Times from the Harewood Speed Hillclimb, Practice Day can be found here.

Many thanks to BARC Yorkshire centre at Harewood Hill and not forgetting all the marshals and rescue teams without which these events just could not happen.
