British Superbike Championship Oulton Park

Josh Brookes was in untouchable form as the BSB circus rolled into Oulton Park over the May bank holiday weekend. The Australian gave the new V4 Ducati Panigale its first victory in the British Superbike Championship in race 1, before doubling up and taking victory in race 2 to complete a clean sweep of the weekend.

Race 1:

As always a huge crowd had packed into Oulton to witness Britain’s biggest two-wheeled championship, and the sun was shining as Brookes lead the field into Old Hall at the start of lap 1. It was a lead he was never to relinquish, despite the best efforts of Tommy Bridewell following closely behind on the Oxford Racing Moto Rapido Ducati.

The rest of the field was unable to keep pace with the V4 powered duo, who finished the race in first and second position. Danny Buchan put in a spirited ride from sixth on the grid to take the final podium spot for the FS-3 Kawasaki team.

Former MotoGP star Scott Redding took a fine fifth place on his Oulton Park debut, one place behind the McAMS Yamaha of Jason O’Halloran. O’Halloran later revealed he was racing with a fractured arm following  a testing crash last week. Championship leader Tarran Mackenzie fought back to eighth place from 17th at the end of  lap 1 to retain his championship lead.

Race 2:

Race 2 followed a similar pattern to race 1 at the front of the field, with Brookes leading every lap on his BeWiser Ducati, with Tommy Bridewell giving chase but unable to get ahead of the Australian. Danny Buchan finished third making for an identical podium to race 1.

Scott Redding went one better at the second time of asking and finished in fourth place after an entertaining ride with plenty of impressive passes.

Tarran Mackenzie improved on his race 1 result to finish fifth, and left Oulton Park as joint championship leader alongside Tommy Bridewell.

Apart from a couple of technical issues the races passed without incident, with the only faller in both BSB races being Shaun Winfield in race 2.
