Aston Martin Owners Club Racing at Brands Hatch

The Aston Martin Owners Club visited Brands Hatch on Saturday (08/06/2019) with a day of racing from machinery that included GT, Sports and Vintage cars.

Radical SR1 Cup (Race 1) Raw Motorsport’s Julian lay took the days first SR1 Cup win, covering 21 laps of the Brands Hatch Indy circuit beating Quattro Motorsport’s Shane Stoney to the finish line by less than a half a second. Heavy rain fell just before the race start forcing teams to quickly change the rubber to wets for the tricky conditions ahead. Starting back in 8th Lay battled his way through the grid putting in some quick times finding grip on the wet circuit where others could not. Ross Elliot from 4th got off to a flyer overtaking Stoney and Hunt into Paddock Bend to take an early lead only to lose control at Clearway, spinning into the pit wall,  completing just 2 laps and out of the race. Dan Warriner was also caught out by the tricky conditions, another victim of the pit wall after only 1 lap.  Lay took the race lead from Stoney on lap 5 at Surtees, managing to keep Stoney behind throughout the rest of the race who was on his tail right up to the chequered flag.

Radical SR1 Cup (Race 2) Shane Stoney had a point to prove and drove the Quattro Motorsport SR1 to a race 2 victory, maintaining his position as championship leader. At the start Shane Stoney, Will Hunt and Ross Elliott went into Paddock Bend 3 wide, all survived. Elliott’s and Chris Short’s race would be cut short on lap 2 with a visit to the gravel at Paddock Hill after a coming together which warranted a safety car. At the re-start Stoney kept the race lead, winning with ease, crossing the line 13 seconds ahead of the Track Focused car of Dean Warriner. The Scorpio Motorsport car of Will Hunt came home in 3rd.
