RAM Racing Race to Silverstone 500 Win

Mercedes ran riot throughout the whole weekend at the silverstone 500, claiming wins in both categories and quickest in morning warm-up.
RAM Racings Ian Loggie and Callum Macleod hadn’t put a foot wrong throughout the whole weekend and kept cool with the pressure as the race progressed to reap the rewards at the end. Scott Malvern and Nick Jones lost out in Snetterton with a late race retirement, they didn’t let this effect them arriving for this race and soaked up all pressure to climb through the field and taker the win in class.

The Silverstone 500 was ran fully under green conditions with not one single Yellow flag period or Safety Car throughout the whole race. From the drop of the green flag at 12:35, the fight began between the #47 TF Sport Aston Martin, #6 RAM Racing Mercedes and the #22 Balfe Motorsport Mclaren who ran with great pace  to stay in the fight.

As the chequered flag closed in we saw the three way fight for the lead drop down to 2 cars as the #22 Balfe Motorsport were handed a 10 second stop-go Penalty due to a pit stop infringement in their final stop. The team had a problem with the  cars door which wouldn’t stay closed during a pitstop which isn’t allowed by the regulatuons. The team had showed fantastic pace all race long and deserved to be in the fight for the win and a podium if it was not for the faulty door.

Then there was two. The #47 TF Sport Aston Martin had been handed over to Jonny Adam who certainly knows how to handle a car in the final moments of a race. The #6 RAM Racing Mercedes was in the safe hands of Callum Macleod who’d run a fantastic race with Ian Loggie. RAM Racing pitted their car later than the #47 TF sport Aston Martin handing them the advantage of fresher tyres in the last minutes of the race. Macleod onboard the RAM Racing Mercedes had hauled the gap down to a few car lengths with less than 10 minutes to go but slightly outbraved himself down into vale putting the car wide and letting the gap grow once again for Jonny Adam.

The gap was short lived though as Adam approached the #19 Mustang coming into Becketts. The #19 Mustang tapped Adam in the middle of Becketts thus both cars losing momentum heading into chapel. Macleod saw a gap going into chapel on the inside of the Mustang, #19 gave him space not knowing that Jonny was still the other side of him and clipped the left rear wheel of the #47 TF Sport machine instantly putting him into a spin and forcing Jonny Adam into retirement.  The left rear suspension had been broken in the contact and TF Sports chances for a win were wiped from the board.

Callum Macleod kept it clean with no contact and wound it back for the last couple of laps to bring him the RAM Racing Mercedes for their first win back in the series since rejoining at the start of the season.

Post Race saw some penalties come through that would change the face of the podium. JRM and their #31 Bentley with Rick Parfitt and Sea Morris on board had a smooth race that watched them steadily climb up through the field with them eventually on the podium with Jonny Adam’s exit from the race just before the chequered flag. Unfortunately the team were found to be underweight during post race inspections and were disqualified from the result, thus promoting WPI Motorsport to third position in their Lamborghini.

GT4 saw Team Parker Racing take their Maiden  win in their #66 AMG GT4 Mercedes. Scott Malvern and Nick Jones survived a real race of attrition with accident damage to a lot of contenders and malfunctions with others. #61 Academy motorsport was retired after lap 3 contact with #5 Tolman motorsport. The Tolman Motorsport Mclaren continued but retired one lap later with a puncture and further damage to the car.

AMG Mercedes Factores driver Maxi Buhk was onboard the ERC Mercedes to help them claim 2nd in class whilst the#15 Mustang of Maxwell and Priaulx took a 3rd place in class. Due to more post race penalties though the #15 Mustang was handed a 30 second time penalty after crawling down pitlane to reach its minimum time which is not allowed in the regulations of the sport. With this time penalty it saw the 4th place finishers of Beechdean in their GT4 Aston Martin take the 3rd position on the podium for the class.
