Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup To Run As Single-Class Series

The BTCC support series the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup has confirmed it will consolidate both the G50 GT4 and G55 GT4 cars into one single class for 2014.

To keep it fair, the two models will be equalised through a balance of performance test, enabling the G55 and G50 cars to compete against each other to ensure the close racing remains for next season. The championship is well regarded as a proving ground for the stars of the future and will continue as a BRDC qualifying championship for both the G55 & G50 GT4 cars.

“Well regarded as a proving ground for the stars of the future…”

Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson added; “Many drivers join the Ginetta championships as we offer a recognised route into GT racing – from the early days in the Ginetta Junior Championship, into the Ginetta GT5 Challenge and then onto the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup. For us, the amalgamation of the two classes aims to add further opportunity in the already established Ginetta career ladder, and offer a viable option for drivers and teams looking to compete in our single-make series, as well as other GT packages.”

Ginetta Championships Manager Ashley Gallagher said; “It is crucial for Ginetta to remain flexible enough to accommodate the needs of our customers, and after recognising that GT racing is the ultimate goal of many of our competitors, the GT4 class became the obvious choice. Racers on the TOCA package receive unrivalled broadcast and print media coverage, as well as great exposure to thousands of fans at each of the race meetings throughout the season for themselves, the team and their sponsors, and we are sure that, combined with the reinvigorated 2014 format will ensure the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup remains the race series of choice for many aspiring drivers.”

Having renewed their contract with organising body TOCA in July, the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup has been an integral part of the BTCC support package since the inception of the G50 Cup in 2009 and this commitment is further backed by global tyre manufacturer Michelin extending its title sponsorship of the championship for a further two years.

With over 150 Ginetta G50’s in circulation across the globe – many of which are homologated GT4 cars – in addition to a number of G55 Cup cars, the move will enable more Ginetta owners to compete in the single-make championships as well as enter their cars in popular GT series around the world.

Many thanks to Ginetta & Jakob Ebrey Photography.
