CSCC Gold Arts Magnificent Sevens Snetterton

Classic Sports Car Club – The first CSCC Gold Arts Magnificent Sevens Group 1 and Group 2 races of the 2014 season took place at Snetterton 300 circuit the weekend of 12th & 13th April.

The entry was superb, both group one and two grids reaching late twenties and early thirties respectively. In fact, the level of entries in group 1 have been higher than expected for this, the first year of splitting the grids. Looking at the results of the group one qualifying times and race results it is evident that the Sigma powered cars are significantly faster than the equivalent Rover K series powered cars. Therefore the decision has been made to separate these two power units, by creating class S in group 1 for the Sigma cars. This will mean the there will now be four classes in group 1 which are as follows –

Gold Arts Magnificent Sevens Classes:-

A  – For cars up to 125bhp.

B  – For Rover K-series powered cars from 126 to 140 bhp

S  – For Sigma engine powered cars from 126 to 145 bhp

C  – Power output of 141 to 185 bhp, up to 2000 cc and naturally aspirated bike engines up to 1300 cc. (Duratec and Vauxhall 2000cc engines race within Group 2)

T1 – Taster class (not eligible for awards)

This class revision will be in place by the next race at Silverstone on May 10th. Group 2 regulations remain un- changed. The club has also confirmed that both groups of the Gold Arts Magnificent Sevens have been allocated the garages at Silverstone, which includes the paddock area immediately behind the garages.

On the Sunday the weather was dry, sunny and a little windy, but that’s Snetterton. The day started off meeting with new and old friends, catching up whilst drinking tea and coffee. I was very pleased to see some competitors have returned to race after a couple of years away. Congratulations to Peter Ratcliff for winning the group 2 race after enjoying nearly a lights to flag competition with Simon Smith.

Group 1 was won overall by Spencer Horgan ahead of the 2 driver team of Neil Palmer and Ian Towers.

Mechanical issues helped to de- cide the result in both races. We look forward to the competition resuming at Silverstone.

“I would like to thank you for your continuing support for the series. It’s you the competitor that make the series the fun that it is and provide such close racing with excellent driving standards” said Peter French CSCC Gold Arts Magnificent Sevens Drivers Representative.
