AMCO Race Day, Brands Hatch

The AMCO (Aston Martin Owners Club) where at Brands Hatch on Saturday (13/08/2016) with a day of racing covering many events which included the Kumho BMW Championship, The Equipe GTS, and two AMCO events, The Intermarque/GT Challenge & The 50’s Sport Cars/ Innes Ireland Cup.

The day was perfect for motorsport weather wise, conditions were bright and warm sometimes cloudy, but dry. The morning kicked off with 30 minutes of general testing, with the teams and drivers preparing their machines for the day, many of the cars from all the day’s races occupying the track at the same time.

This was followed by the normal morning qualifying periods, to get those times in to improve your time and grid position, with the first race of the day (Kumho BMW Championship) before the lunch break.

After the lunch break racing commenced with race 2, The Equipe GTS out on track with a 20 plus car field, a mixed bag of historic machines with a  large MGB field going up against  Triumph TR4’s and the odd Austin Healey. Their second race (race 5) would be later in the afternoon. This was followed by both the AMCO events, (Races 3 & 4) and The Kumho BMW Championship, (Race 6).

Large grids greeted the spectators from all classes, with the exception of the last race ,The Allcomers Sprint Race, with only five cars entered. The largest grid being The Kumho BMW Championship with 30 cars on track, a mixed bag of BMW’s with a couple of BTCC looking Series 1 cars in the mix.

The day was an entertaining one with much drama, with most of the action happening at Paddock bend & Druids as usual, with the odd off, role and contact.

A good show by the AMCO, an entertaining day all round.
