The MSVR Club Car Championship Enjoys Glorious Sunshine At Oulton

The day’s itinerary included races for the Monoposto classes, Lotus Cup and Championship, Sports 2000 as well as three races for the Radical Challenge. With temperatures in the high twenties everyone was set for a good day of racing.

The three Radical races consisted of two forty-minute endurance races as well as a 20-minute sprint race. The first race was won from pole position by Steve Burgess. However, the win did not come easy. The lead was taken by Dominik Jackson at the very start of the race. Jackson built a gap between himself and Burgess but a spin at Cascades on his out lap cost him dear and he fell to tenth place. This left Burgess to cruise through to take the victory from second place Mark Richards with Brian Murphy taking the final spot on the podium.

The 20 minute sprint race came next for the Radicals. Again it was very close racing between Steve Burgess and Dominik Jackson from the very start. Burgess came out of the first corner with the lead but Jackson was tucked in behind Burgess for most of the race, never slipping much more than a second behind. Jackson made his move on lap nine coming into Hislops, the attempted pass forced both drivers to take avoiding action. As this happened Italian Marcello Marateotto crashed his car, the Red flag had to be brought out and the final classification was taken from the previous lap. This meant that Burgess had secured two wins from two races with still one endurance race to go.

Steve Burgess (front) and Dominik Jackson (behind) battled through the first two races.

Race three again started close but this time it was Jackson that gained the upper hand, and with no pit stop penalty to serve, it was a cruise to the finish for the Lincoln man. After a heavy pit stop penalty because of his wins in the first two races and a spin later in the race, Burgess could only manage sixth place. Second place was taken by Kristian Jeffrey with third place going to Jerome de Sadeleer. The next outing for the Radical Challenge championship will be at Snetterton on 11-12th August.

Dominik Jackson took the third race.

There were also two Lotus races for spectators to enjoy. The first race was won from pole position by Joe Taylor with Craig Denman and Jason McInulty taking second and third respectively.

Taylor was on scintillating form in race two taking the win from tenth place on the grid. John LaMaster took a brilliant second place and Denman took third after passing David Alexander in the closing stages of the race.

Joe Taylor drove magnificently in his Lotus Exige S2.

Ben Carter took the win in both of the Monoposto F3, 2000, FR2000 & Moto 1400 races in his Dallara F306. Jason Timms was a close second in both races – the Gloucester finishing the second race just 0.549 seconds behind Carter.

Ben Cater and Jason Timms were closely matched throughout the day.

Richard Gittings in his Jedi Mk6 took the first Monoposto 1800, 1600, Classic 2000 and Moto 1000 race by 3.802 seconds from Dean Warren with Dominic Shepherd 15 seconds further back in third.

After a DNF in the first race, Tom Rawlings charged from pole position to take the second race by a huge 11.922 seconds from Gittings and Shepherd who again took third but only by a tenth of a second from Warren in fourth.

Tom Rawlings was dominant in the second race in his Visual Security Speads.

Tom Stoten started the first Sports 2000 race on pole. He would hold this position to take the race win, not without pressure from David Houghton who took second place. Joshua Low took the third spot on the podium.

Stoten also took the top spot for the second race in his Gunn TS11. David Houghton again took second albeit a larger gap of 11.769 seconds from the winner. The top two were joined on the poduim by Michael Gibbins who started on the back row of the grid but stormed through the field.

Tom Stoten took the top step of the podium for both Sports 2000 races.
