Race Retro 2016

Last weekend saw many of the historic racing fraternity come together at Race Retro, and there was plenty to see with club displays, stands, auto jumble and even Mick Grant giving a Pre-65 trials demonstration…

Held at Stoneleigh Park, close to Coventry, the show caters for all involved in competing in historic cars and bikes both be it on the circuits or in the forests. Historic motorsport has gone from strength to strength over the last few years as competitors relive their youth in the cars that they remember seeing being pushed hard on the tarmac or sideways on a stage. The added bonus is the fact that these ‘classics’ hold their price well too…

Set in a rural setting, Race Retro also has the advantage of being able to put on outdoor rally demonstrations and this year visitors could experience Grp B 6R4’s, 911’s, Sierra Cosworths, Michelotto Ferrari’s, Quattros and the popular Mk1 and Mk2 Ford Escorts all blatting by firing rooster tails of dirt as they were put through their paces. Also on display from the Williams collection were a selection of legendary F1 cars with Damon Hill visiting the show on the Sunday to be re-united with some of his old cars.

Speaking with the clubs and organisers it looks like 2016 will be another good year with plenty of cars lining up on the grid and many being ‘frantically’ worked on to be completed prior to the season which starts in only a few weeks time.

In all another good show with plenty to see and experience – its great to see these classic competition cars not just being polished but out there being driven.
