Wolds Trophy Cadwell Park

The crowds and drivers enjoyed a warm and dry weekends racing at Cadwell Park (18th/19th June)  for the annual Wolds Trophy meeting…

Historic Sports Car Club’ event was a weekend of fine racing that included presentations of some awards by two drivers who were part of the inaugural Griffiths Formula race at Castle Combe, the race that led to the creation of the HSCC back in 1966. Ivan Sharrock and Chris Drewett presented trophies as the club’s 50th birthday celebrations continued.

In the 70s Road Sports Championship, farther and son Charles & Julian Barter battled it out, Julian winning the opening race in his Lotus Elan but father Charles piloted his Datsun 240Z to win on the Sunday but it was a tough drive taking the flag by a mere 0.75 of a second.

Another father and son Stuart Roach and  father Keith competed in the HSCC/FJRHA Silverline Historic Formula Junior Championship, Stuart managed 3 wins in his front-engined Alexis Mk2 and rear-engined Condor S111. Unfortunately in the second race the Condor lost oil pressure and had gearbox issues which forced his retirement enabling John Sykes in his Merlyn Mk5/7 to take his first overall win.

It was a 40 odd car line up on the grid for the Historic Formula Ford 1600’s and as always the championship produced some fantastic racing. Callum Grant taking 2 wins in his Merlyn but he was being pushed hard all the way around by Ben Simms in race one and Rob Wainwright on the Sunday a mere 1/3 of a second behind. Ben Tilley completed the podium.

It was a double win for Brabham BT21B driver Jon Milicevic in the Historic Formula 3 Championship, with another Brabham B21 leading the charge on the Sunday with Ewen Sergison who was first man over the line with Simon Armer in a March 703 finishing close behind.

In the Historic Formula Ford 2000 Championship, Andrew Park remained the man to beat securing another two wins in his Reynard, its 5 wins from 6 races so far for this FF driver.

The grid was shared for the Classic FF2000 and Classic Racing Cars fields, the VanDiemen of Ian Pearson taking the double win in the FF2000’s and Andy Jarvis in the Classic Racing Cars…

In the Historic Road Sports Championship, the Lotus Elan of Peter Shaw and the Morgan Plus 8 of Kevin Kivlochan both enjoyed wins, Dave Boland in his Ginetta G4 chased hard all weekend securing a second in the Sunday race.

It was battle of the Cortina’s in the ByBox Historic Touring Car Championship, but it was  John Avill who stood on the top step of the podium both times but the pressure was kept on by fellow Cortina driver Graham Pattle in race one while the super fast Imp of Simon Benoy came home second on the Sunday following the retirement of Pattle in race two after huge gearbox failure as he came over the mountain.

Mark Charteris in his Mallock was unstoppable in the Classic Clubmans Championship and David Weston won both rounds of the Lackford Engineering Sprite and Midget Challenge.
