Lochlan Bearman kicks off his 2017 race campaign

Getting stuck in to his 2017 race campaign, 15 year old Lochlan Bearman headed to Brands Hatch circuit in Kent last weekend (8th & 9th April) to line up on the grid in the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship…

Driving with the Jamsport team for the first time, Lachlan proved to be consistently fast across the practice sessions using old tyres to get his eye in proving that not only was the car set up was right on pace there was more to come from the young racer.

This championship is notorious competitive and after quail the fastest five drivers were a mere 1 tenth of a second apart and it was a 4th place start for the 15yr old. Lochlan commented that he was really pushing for pole but as the tyres came onto their optimum there he encountered traffic missing pole by 8/100 of a second.

In race one the first five led the pack and Lochlan held onto 4th however fighting grip coming off the corners enabled the first three to start to pull away and he dropped into 5th. Battling to get the best from the tyres and with pressure from 6th which led to 6th placed driver being a little optimistic at Clearways taking both off the track. Lochlan recovered eventually finishing 9th.

This meant a 9th place start on for Lochlan in race two after the Jamsport team worked flat out to get the car ready for race two. It was a good start, gaining a position before the drop into PaddockHill bend, then another place by Druids. Into 6th the battle was well and truly on but a smart move undercutting at Druids again gained place. With his sights set on the 5th place racer ahead he got his head down and caught the driver in front and a massive corner by corner battle ensued that had the commentator wailing and the crowds cheering. After a brave super late braking move Lochlan was through but the leaders had now got away and catching 4th was just not possible.

Not a bad start to the year we think but the youngster was disappointed however he has proved he is fast and he will focus all his energy  on his next outing at Cadwell Park on the 6th and 7th May.

We could be seeing this young man on the BTCC grid one day.
