MGCC Brands Hatch Spring Race Meeting

With the Donington Park meeting already a distant memory the MG Car Club headed for Brands Hatch and the famous Indy circuit; a full paddock meant packed grids as the clubs second meeting of 2017 got underway…

An action packed two days of track entertainment took place over the bank holiday weekend in some glorious spring weather and a fantastic mix of drivers and MG machinery dating from the 1930’s through to more modern MG ZR racers could be found at the Kent track.

The MGCC was also joined over the weekend by the Equipe GTS which showcases some of the best loved British sports cars dating pre-1966 which compete across five classes. With over 50 cars at this meeting, races had to be split into two groups, groups A & B, with the likes of Lotus, Austin Healey, Triumph and of course MG, doing battle on track in four 30 minute races.

The MGCC MG Trophy Championship had around 30 cars on the start line, MG ZR cars of various power sizes (190, 170 & 160). This is door handle to door handle stuff, and I don’t think one car left the circuit at the end of the day without battle scars of some kind or another…great competitive racing.

The MGCC Triple M/Mary Harris Trophy had two races on Sunday with 30 or so cars on the grid. It’s just fantastic to see these cars from the 1930’s being raced hard with the ‘pilots’ hanging from the cockpit trying to get the car round the twisty Brands Hatch circuit as quickly as possible.

Races from the Drayton Manor MG Metro Cup, Pete Best Insurance MG Cup, the MGCC Watt Electrical BCV8 Championship along with the modified Midgets and Sprite’s from the MGCC Lackford Engineering Midget & Sprite Challenge made sure the weekend was never short of variety and track activity.

Not all the track action was courtesy of the MG brand however, also out racing were the drivers from Porsche Car Club Championship as well as the two Quaife, Saloon and Tin Top, Championships.

For your pound you could not ask for more entertainment on four wheels and if you are a big MG fan then next on the MGCC calendar is MG Live, a whole weekend at Silverstone celebrating this iconic marque definitely going to be well worth a visit.

Full results and times can be found here.
