Black Beauty – JPS liveried BMW 635CSI at Silverstone Classic

Kiwi racing legend Jim Edwards will strap himself back into the car he called his ‘office’ back in 1983…

This has to be one of the best looking racers I have seen for a while…and following a note from the Silverstone Classic press office the news is it will be landing on UK soil to race at the fantastic event at the end of July (28-30th).

This will be the first time that this legendary racer has left its native lands and frankly racing it at the Silverstone Classic is a fine place to compete on UK soil. Jim Edwards, 7 time Bathurst winner with multiple Aussie touring car titles to his name, will be a fine addition to what already promises to be a stunning line up at this years event. Richards started racing the CSi back in 1983 with the Frank Gardner Raing Team and the car was built to Group C spec meaning it was far more developed originally than the later Group A rules would later allow. This meant that the car had its work cut out against the more powerful Holdens and Fords which were using highly developed V8’s at the time. However in 1985 the rules changed to Group A spec and in this guise and with Jim at the wheel the partnership became unbeatable – Richards winning 7 of the 10 rounds and taking the Australian Touring Car title. The car also successfully competed in the AMSCAR Series and the Australian Endurance Championship securing the title by winning five out of the six races.

Bought and owned by a New Zealand collector in its Group A spec, the car has recently been converted back to Group C a project that has taken 18 months to complete.

Jim was quoted as saying ” The sound of the straight six, twin-cam engine revving at more than 8000rpm is something all petrol heads should hear,”.

The competition will be tough – RS500’s a plenty will fill this grid but personally we cant wait to see it.

Its going to be a great event – get your tickets at silverstoneclassic.com

Many thanks to Silverstone Classic.
