Classic Sports Car Club Racing into the Night at Oulton Park

On Saturday 7th October Oulton Park welcomed the Classic Sports Car Club with races for the Tin Top, Future Classics and Swinging Sixties classes, as well as many more.

The day started with 30 minute qualifying sessions for all races. With intermittent heavy rain downpours during the morning, the drivers had to make the most of a chance at a dry qualifying lap. This constant change in conditions forced drivers to change their driving styles to match the changing grip available to them; some even opted to come into the pits to change to the right tyre.

A very heavy downpour started at lunchtime and continued throughout the afternoon. This left standing water on the track providing treacherous conditions. With the races being forty minutes long most crews opted to use two drivers. It was very difficult for the second driver to get in to a rhythm as they were thrown straight into close racing on a very wet track. All crews drove incredibly well in the bad conditions with few crashes and spins.

From about 3 pm, the light started to drop due to the dark clouds and the longer nights of the Autumn months. With the last race being scheduled to finish at 6.30 pm it was clear that the crews  in the final races would be racing in near darkness. This was the case with the last race having to finish early in nearly pitch darkness. This bad light in addition to the heavy rain made visibility very hard for the drivers in the last race so race control had no choice but stop it 18 minutes early.

Full results can be found here.

Many thanks to MSV.
