Formula Vintage Oulton Park

The Vintage Sports Car Club made its annual visit to Oulton Park last Saturday (19th May), bringing its Formula Vintage meeting to Cheshire for the second time.

Perfect weather for racing and a healthy crowd made for a very entertaining meeting, with 10 races for a wide variety of cars on the bill. Off-track, the crowds were treated to a concours d’elegance, an autosolo competition in the paddock and vintage music in the spring sunshine.

On the track, the VSCC regulars were joined by invited grids from the AR Motorsport Morgan Challenge and the Pirelli Ferrari Formula Classic series, as well as the 500cc Formula 3 cars of the 1950s.

The Oulton Park Trophy was retained by 2017 victor Dougal Cawley in his 1929 GN Ford ‘Piglet’, while the Bill Philips Trophy for Standard and Modified Pre-War Cars was taken by Christopher Mann is his stunning 1932 Alfa Romeo Monza.

Charles Gillet took victory in the Hawthorn Memorial Trophy in his ex-Jack Brabham Cooper T43 Formula 1 Car.

In the Ferrari Formula Classic races, both races were taken by Wayne Marrs, who had to fend off stiff competition in both 20 minute encounters to stand on top of the podium. The Morgan Challenge win was taken by Andrew Thompson in his V6 Morgan, while Darrell Woods took the spoils in the 500cc F3 event.
