Want2Race Launch National Search For Undiscovered Racers

The hunt for the UK’s hottest undiscovered racing talent has begun, with wannabe racing drivers embarking on want2race; a competition backed by Ginetta Cars and run in partnership with Karting and Track Driver Magazines.

With a £6,000 Ginetta prize package on offer, the competition offers one of the most exciting prizes in motorsport, which includes the loan of a Ginetta GT5 Challenge car for a race weekend weekend, entry into the Donington Park round of the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge, as well as your own helmet, race suit, boots, insurance, fuel, testing, race tyres and full support and driver coaching.

Lawrence Tomlinson, Ginetta Chairman said; “Last year’s want2race competition was a huge success, and we’re delighted to be involved once again. want2race is the perfect platform for adult drivers up and down the country to compete for a chance to race within a high-profile championship. Not only that, but it is a great way to experience a Ginetta race car on a circuit at an affordable cost.”

The challenge begins with a qualifying round at drivers’ local go-karting tracks, check out your local indoor or outdoor circuit to find out if they are a part of the scheme, which include some of the most prestigious circuits in the UK, such as Buckmore Park, Daytona Motorsports, PPiK and Karting North East.

Jim Graham, Daytona Motorsport’s Marketing Director said; “Daytona Motorsport are delighted to be hosting qualifying rounds of the Want2Race Competition. The chance to win a Ginetta Race Package is a great opportunity for aspiring racing drivers. We look forward to welcoming those drivers to our circuits for their qualifying sessions and wish all entrants the best of luck.“

There are 16 want2race qualifying kart circuits available for entrants to select, with drivers being put into categories and assessed at the circuit. Marcia Child, Buckmore Park Sales Director said: “For decades Buckmore Park Karting has been producing world beating champions. We are therefore delighted to be associated with Want2Race and the superb opportunity they are offering to kart drivers to make the move to car racing”

Ginetta GT5 Challenge race cars await the top qualifying drivers from each kart circuit, with those who make the grade – with age, experience, weight & weather conditions all accounted for – invited to join the team on track for a test day with one-to-one tuition in the car alongside Ginetta and BTCC racing drivers.

The top 30 drivers will be invited to return for the want2race final, an event that is free of charge and pushes candidates further as they get nearer to the drive package of their dreams. A previous competitor, Munir Choudhury, comments on his experience; “Want2race was the highlight of my year with generous seat time in the thoroughbred G40 race car and invaluable tuition from multiple British racing champions. There really aren’t any other experiences in the UK quite like it. I’m very grateful to all involved and I’ve already signed up for 2014!”

Want2race organiser, Ben Hyland explains; “Our aim is for all drivers to experience something totally unique, learn new techniques and driving skills, but above all to have lots of fun! Last year we saw huge potential in many drivers from all kinds of backgrounds and experience levels. Of course winning that amazing Ginetta prize package is fantastic, but getting there and being part of it makes the whole want2race experience so special.”

Want2race has now transformed three novice drivers into bonafide racing car drivers, all completing in at least one MSA competitive event, and all finishing in the top 10 on their very first competitive race weekend.
