Goodwood Festival of Speed Sunday

Sunday is the day at the Festival of Speed that really counts for the timed competitors, as various engines were warmed up in the early morning, the crowd absorbed the sights and sounds in the paddocks the anticipation of the shootout in the afternoon started to set in…

One of the F1 stars in attendance on Sunday was F1 championship leader Nico Rosberg driving his Mercedes F1 W05 Hybrid up the hill, the first time a car from the current Turbo era has appeared at Goodwood. Nico was popular with the fans meeting and signing autographs in the top paddock, if you get the chance, take a look at his social media videos for some behind the scenes views of a FOS weekend for an F1 driver.

The competition in the afternoon comprised of one main shootout with all the cars ranging from a McLaren P1 LM driven by racing legend Kenny Brack to a Rover SD1. Within the main hillclimb there was fierce competition but there was also a mini shootout between the 7 attendees from the BTCC series. Fletcher, Tordoff, Morgan, Plato, Neal, Cook and Jordan all competed in their respective BTCC cars. The shootout didn’t end well for Fletcher, running in to the hay bales at Molecomb corner causing a small delay in proceedings. After the runs were complete Andrew Jordan took the spoils and bragging rites in the BTCC shootout with a winning time of 55.50 beating Matt Neal in P2 by 8 tenths of a second! In the overall shootout Olly Clark took the spoils yet again in his Subaru Impreza “Gobstopper II” with a winning time of 46.29 secs just 0.78 seconds ahead of Kenny Brack in his state of the art McLaren P1 LM.

Overall, despite the changeable weather conditions it was an excellent Festival once again, roll on Goodwood Revival and next year’s events!
