MG Live 2017 ‘The Worlds Biggest MG Event’

MG Live 2017 – MG’s from every corner of the planet flocked to Silverstone for this years meeting last weekend at Silverstone…

Glorious sunshine and very warm temperatures were enjoyed by all as circa 300 drivers across 10 different championships and race series line up and thrashed it out at the Northamptonshire circuit at the 2 day meeting which is a firm fixture in the MGCC racing calendar.

Off track there was plenty to see and do, auto jumbles and tons of trade stands selling their wares, along with rows of club cars on display as the many MG Car Club register members displayed their pride and joys. Also this year there was the Smartdrive Club Live Arena with Russ Swift, the stunt driver behind the wheel of the 1987 1.6L Montego advert, showing off his skills behind the wheel of a MG3 along with Wheeler Dealers Mike Brewer and new boy Ant Anstead.

On track the Equipe GTS, with it’s 70 plus cars were placed into two groups,  A & B – this series  never fails to impress (good to see P42’s Will Penrose on the podium in his red Blackpool rocket ! – Ed) while the MGCC BCV8 Championship along with MGCC Cockshoot Cup Cars occupied the circuit at the same time.  A 42 car grid of MG ZR’s competing in the Millers Oils MG Trophy Championship did not fail to impress as close fast racing, door handle to door handle stuff –  BTCC style was enjoyed by the crowds.

The Iconic 50’s treated us with some race cars from days gone by with Austin Healeys, Lotus and the odd Cooper Bristol and Bobtail all mixing it with MGB’s, MGA’s and the exotic MG’s such as the MG Dick Jacobs Special and the Lister MG. The Lackford Engineering Midget and Sprite Challenge also gave a fine performance as both lightly modified and full on modified’s ‘toughed’ it out around the famous track.

Also filling the paddock and competing over the weekend were the Radical Challenge, the Porsche Club Championship and a fantastic one hour race with pit stops from the Masters Pre ’66 Touring Cars….

What a weekend, a festival celebrating everything MG, the weather was a perfect although a little hot, and for MG enthusiasts what was there not to like. If you are a fan of the MG marque make the visit next year, take your tent, or book a room, you will not be disappointed….
