British GT Championship Rounds 1 & 2 Oulton Park, April 1st

A huge bank holiday crowd had to rely on some fantastic GT racing to keep the cold away at a chilly Oulton Park.

The season started with a bang, as Gregor Fisken in the #33 Trackspeed Porsche hit the Beechdean Aston Martin and the #14 Fortec Mercedes SLS, causing race ending damage to both cars.

This was followed by a major fire for the works Team LNT Ginetta G55 just as the pit stop window opened, causing major damage to the car and causing it to take no further part in the weekend.

Following the pitstops, a fantastic race developed at the front of the field. The lead fight came down to an inter-team battle between the Trackspeed Porsches, with Phil Keen finally overhauling Porsche factory driver Nick Tandy on the final lap of the race to take the win for the Demon Tweeks sponsored car he shares with Jon Minshaw.

Behind this there was a titanic scrap for the final podium place, with Ollie Hancock driving brilliantly to take third for Fortec on their British GT debut

Race two was a less frantic affair, with the early stages seeing a tense battle for the lead between the outstanding Allan Simonsen in the Rosso Verde Ferrari and Nick Tandy in the #31 Trackspeed Porsche. This sadly came to an end at the pitstops, with a slow stop from the Rosso Verde crew dropping the Ferrari, now driven by Hector Lester, to fifth.

Tandy handed over to former champion David Ashburn, who was being hauled in by Mark Patterson in the United Autosports Audi R8 before a pair of huge accidents, and another Ginetta on fire, brought out the safety car with 11 minutes remaining.

This left the field with a two lap dash to the flag, with Ashburn able to hold off the charging Patterson to claim another win for Trackspeed. Marco Attard and Ollie Bryant took third in Race 2 for the Ecurie Ecosse BMW squad.
